Board rules

These rules are disclosed to clarify the various responsibilities of all community members here on They shall be adhered to by everyone to ensure that our board runs smoothly and provides a fun and productive experience for all of our community members and visitors.

  1. Basic Forum Etiquette: Play Nice

    1. Don't be rude. #
    2. Don't promote products or services. #
    3. Don't post inappropriate pictures or material. #
    4. Don't whine at the Admin or Moderators. #
    5. Don't create a new user account, known as a 'sock puppet', to come back in if you are banned. #
    6. We believe that co-operative participation is a superior method of developing proas and promoting their image in the sailing world. We do not believe the 'debate' method is the best way of researching and developing any issue regarding proas. It automatically creates an opponent. When people are forced to become defensive, creativity suffers and growth stops. This affects us all. #
    7. Respect is the name of the game. You must respect your fellow members. Please refrain from inflammatory and defamatory comments as well as flaming, taunting, goading and general disrespect towards other members (or former members), their ideas and designs. Disrespect includes being deliberately obtuse, repeating points or arguments excessively and misrepresenting someone's position or ideas. The use of "Strawman arguments", "Red Herrings" and other contentious debating techniques are not only disrespectful of the member being addressed but also to the community as a whole. Infringements will be measured against the question: "was it disrespectful?" #
    8. Bullies are not welcome. They may bring expertise to a forum but there is always a larger hidden cost in terms of lost input and creativity from other members. For further information on advantages of this organizing principle, see “The No Asshole Rule”, by Prof. Robert Sutton. #
  2. Reporting

    1. There is a facility alongside forum comments to report them to the moderator should any member feel a breach of our etiquette has occurred. Responding to a violation in an inflammatory manner, is a violation in itself and will be deleted and a warning will be given. #
  3. Moderation Policy

    1. The Moderation Policy is to delete the offending comment and issue a warning. Generally, two warnings will be given (except in cases of very blatant infringement), and a third infringement will result in the user being placed on the moderation queue, where all further posts require moderator approval before publication. If the matter can be resolved, the (amended) posts will be released, otherwise permanent banning will result. #
    2. At the moderators' discretion, users may be temporarily or permanently be placed on the moderation queue, on the basis of posts by the same user on other sailing forums, or other reasons. The moderators will always notify the user of any such actions by PM. #
    3. Newly registered users who post spam are banned without warning. #
    4. Moderators have the final say on anything. If you have a problem, you may make a complaint to them directly and not publicly on the website. Creating threads or posts that question or reference moderator decisions or potential moderator decisions, such as post removals and thread closures, is not permitted. We are not perfect and if you feel that we have made a mistake, please privately contact the site moderator, and we will review the situation. #
  4. Content Ownership & Account Closure

    1. We know that people will have to leave our community (of their own free will or otherwise) from time to time and to that end, we do not delete accounts, posts or other content posted on our community. All content is granted to us with perpetual electronic publishing rights because any content posted on this community becomes a part of the community, even if you no longer are. You may request an item to be removed at any time, but we will decide when and if to remove content from our community. If you wish to no longer be identified with our community, we will be glad to close your account and alter your profile information to remove all identifying characteristics. After account closure, you will no longer be able to participate in this community and this action is not reversible. #
  5. Conclusion & Feedback

    1. Do you have a question about our Rules or anything else? Do you have a suggestion? Do you want to offer some feedback? Or are you experiencing some trouble with the site? No matter what it is, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be glad to help in any way that we can. #
    2. Mutual respect is the name of the game. Everybody responds well to it. This forum has been created for your enjoyment. Please enjoy it to the full. Thank you for visiting #
